Fiido X Upgraded Description

The Fiido X Upgraded is a very unique electric bike. Weighing just 37 lbs, it is one of the lightest folding ebikes on the market today, and yet it's packed with features not found on ebikes that are twice its price.

The sleek magnesium alloy frame includes an integrated LED headlight and brake light, and the battery is hidden within the locking seat tube. The hinge and handle of the folding mechanism are also align with the smooth lines of the frame, giving the Fiido X a truly elegant appearance. 

 

But don't let looks fool you. The Fiido X electric bike has a beefy 350W motor in the rear hub, which is ready to assist you when pedaling up hills or against headwinds. The 3-level pedal assist system (PAS) uses a torque sensor for precise control, working seamlessly with the 7-speed Shimano drivetrain (gears).

The seat tube-integrated battery uses a unique power rail system that eliminates external cables connecting the battery to the motor, as found in earlier design iterations such as the model D11. The rails are engaged simply by locking the seat tube in place with the quick release lever. That means when you insert the seat, the same action that locks the seat at your desired height also invisibly performs the electrical connection to the battery.

Fiido X Upgrades

In early April, 2022, Fiido received a report of a faulty Model X frame from a US customer. Sales of the Model X were immediately suspended, and the company began a thorough investigation and testing, leading to significant upgrades to the design of the frame and its folding mechanism.

Following are the specific improvements made to the Model X.

1. Before 6.5mm, new 12mm. Increase the contact area by approximately 84.6%. Lowered the pressure of the frame by increasing the contact area between the axle and the frame, to improve the strength of the frame.
2. Before 14mm, new 18mm. Increased the thickness by approximately 28.6%.
3. Before 16mm, new 18mm. Increased the thickness by approximately 12.5%.

1. Before 3mm, new 7mm. Increased the thickness by approximately 133%.
2. Before 3.5mm, new 7mm. Increased the thickness by approximately 100%.
3. Before 7mm, new 8.5mm. Increased the thickness by approximately 21.4%.
4. Before 6mm, new 7mm. Increased the thickness by approximately 16.7%.

Increased the diameter of the axle, to enlarge the contact area between the axle and frame, which will lower the pressure of the frame and improve the strength of the frame.

There’s a hole in the fracture area of the old frame, which weakened the strength of the fracture area. On the upgraded frame the hole is removed to enhance the strength of the frame.

Input a wear-resisting steel bushing into the frame, to prevent the axle from touching the frame directly, so as to avoid the looseness after abrasion or deformation. Keeping the front and rear triangles are always in a close state, to improve the strength of the frame.

The upgraded design improves the mechanical strength of the folding structure greatly, while reducing the abrasion between the folding structure and the frame. The modification and tests involved CNC of mold and folding parts, a use test, fatigue test and transportation loss test.
