We no longer refer to bikes by gender, like girls bikes or boys bikes. But traditionally, bicycles with a step-through frame were known as Ladies, Women's, or Girls bikes. In this article we discuss some of the great electric bikes for women available today.
A step-through frame (also known as open frame or low-step frame) is a type of bicycle frame with a low or absent top tube or cross-bar. These were popular in the early 20th century, mainly for their advantage to riders wearing skirts or dresses.
As a result of changing clothing styles and attitudes towards gender, we like to describe bikes by their frame style, rather than the presumed gender of the rider.
Still, there are certain types of electric bikes that appeal to women more than men.
Women like ebikes that are not too heavy, especially if they need to lift the bike onto a rack or into a vehicle.
Many women are also looking for a comfortable ride, one that will allow them to get to work and back without breaking a sweat.
Electric hybrid bikes for women are gaining in popularity. We find that our women customers also like an ebike that is both stylish and reliable, and a good value for the money.
In the guide, we review a few of the best electric bikes for women. Let’s dive in.
If you are looking for a great step-thru model that won't break the bank, check out the Snapcycle R1 Step-Thru electric cruiser. This ebike has many features typically found on more expensive models, and is perfect for women riders.
The R1 Step-Thru has a low step-over height, making easy to mount and dismount. The battery and cables are integrated into the frame, for a clean and aerodynamic design, and with the curved handlebars, you will ride in comfort whether on city streets or unpaved trails.
The Snapcycle R1 ST has 4" fat tires, giving the rider extra traction, stability and cushion. It offers a 7-speed mechanical drivetrain, so you can ride it like a conventional bike, shifting through the gears as terrain changes. But when you need a boost from the powerful 750W motor, there is a 5-level pedal assist system and a twist throttle. The pedal assist system will help propel the bike forward as you pedal, and when you give the throttle a twist, you can ride freely without having to pedal at all.
The R1 ST has hydraulic disc brakes, which will stop the bike with more authority and in a shorter distance than mechanical brakes. And with it's low minimum seat height of 28.7" and minimum rider height of 5'-2", this model is perfect for shorter riders.
Next up in our collection of ebikes for women is the Nakto Classic Step-Thru model. The Classic is another Dutch cruiser design, with a low-step frame geometry and beautiful cream white color. The Classic may not have the clean lines and minimalist aesthetic of the Snapcycle R1 Step-Thru, but it makes up for this in other ways.
First, the Nakto Classic sports a 250W rear hub motor, paired with an easy-access, removable 48V/12Ah lithium-ion battery. This power duo will help propel you up steep grades and against forceful headwinds. The electronics are controlled by a single-level pedal assist system (PAS) and an intuitive right-side thumb throttle. You can also enjoy riding the Classic like a conventional bike, using the 6-speed geared drivetrain.
When it comes to comfort and ease of use, the Classic Step-Thru is a winner. It has an upright riding posture, which allows you to relax your shoulders and back. And with the adjustable stem, curved cruiser-style handlebars, and stitched ergonomic grips, you are sure to find the perfect alignment and fit for your body.
The Nakto Classic has been on the market for several years, and is one of our bestsellers. We get a lot of feedback from lady riders who just love this ebike. So if you’re in the market for a comfortable, powerful, reliable and affordable electric cruiser, the Classic is a great choice.
The Bakcou Mule Step-Thru (ST) is a fat tire electric mountain that comes in 26" and 24" fat tire designs, and is purpose-built for bow hunters. This is a top-of-the-line hunting ebike, with premium components throughout.
If you need the power and precision to climb steep single-track trails, haul heavy loads, and get through rough or mushy surface conditions, you will value the 1000W Bafang Ultra mid-drive featured on the Mule. This powerhouse puts out up to 160 Newton Meters of torque, and can deliver pedal assisted speeds of up to 35 mph.
The Mule ST downtube-integrated battery is rated 48V/14.5Ah, which should give the average rider a range of about 35 miles per charge. If you need to go further, there are 17.4Ah and 21Ah options available.
We have just looked at a few of the most popular ebikes for women. If you want to see other models, check out our complete step-thru collection. This includes the very cool Green Bike City Premium, a lovely step-through folding ebike, and the E-Fat-Step from Eunorau, a fat-tire folding step-thru model.

I am presently searching for an ebike for my wife and have stumbled upon this blog post. Though I am not new to ebikes this blog has been an eye-opener as to what might be important to her as a woman. I have gone through a lot of sites so far and Really Good Ebikes has really gone out of its way to educate and inform, they answered so many questions that I did not even think to ask. Definitely found where I am getting my wife’s new bike from.

As a shorter than average woman this Blog was very helpful when I decided to get my ebike. Being new to ebikes, I was in the dark about a lot of the important features to look for when getting an ebike e.g bike weight and frame style. This Blog really opened my eyes as to what was important, and because of it I now have an ebike that I love and it’s very easy to manage and super comfortable to ride.

I have to admit that even with all the research I did, I was still not sure as to which ebike would be the right fit for me. As a woman who is new to bikes, reading up on specs really left a lot of my questions unanswered. This blog all my questions and more, I am truly grateful. Thank you.
