Directions to Unlocking the Big Dog Off-Road Speed Limit
- Make sure the display is off
- Hold both breaks and throttle all the way down
- Using another finger (while still holding) turn on the display by pressing down the M button
- After the display turns on, keep holding the breaks and throttle for 16 seconds
- After 16 seconds, let go
- After letting go change the pedal assist level to 5 and pedal
- If you see that the speed gets to around 27-28 mph, it is unlocked
- Repeat steps if it doesn’t work

Independent ebike reviewer and friend Brent McCluskey reviews the GreenBike Big Dog Off-Road fat tire folding electric bike. He says that this ebike feels like a good choice for those who need the power, range and comfort of a full size electric bike, but don’t quite have the space to store a full size bike.
The Big Dog Off Road is a compact frame, but because of the geometry and specifically the handlebars, it feels more like riding a full size electric bike. Also, this will be a good choice for those who plan to carry extra cargo, and/or have steep hills in their area. As far as folders go, the Big Dog Off Road is one of the most powerful, and has one of the biggest batteries around.
Please note that Brent mistakenly referred to this model as the Big Dog Extreme, which is similar to the Big Dog Off-Road, except that it does not have rear suspension).

The GreenBike Big Dog Off-Road does not come with a quick-release front wheel. It is recommended for persons 5'-2"+.

Love the bike but needs better instructions
I got my Big Dog off-road bike in about a week from ordering. CA to NC in a week…not bad! Basically there are no assembly instructions with the bike so you’re kind of on your own. It took a skinned up knee due to hitting the handle bar before I realized I should have mounted the stem 180 degrees from the way it came from the factory. Turned it around and problem solved! Here’s a real and potentially dangerous gotcha: The instructions talk about “6 km mode” on page 7. What they don’t explain is that if you activate this mode, your bike is going to take off at 6 km/hr and probably crash into something! In my case, it was my garage wall which resulted in a broken headlight/horn wire which took a couple of hours to repair. A longer seat post would be nice as my legs feel really bound up at the top of the pedal stroke. I’m not abnormally tall, 5’10”. I’d hate to see someone over 6’ tall try to pedal this bike! Also, the tires that come on it are made for street riding, not off road travel. If you’re going to call something a “Big Dog Off Road” put some sort of off road tires on it! Tires can be replaced easily enough but at $1999 you shouldn’t have to spend more money to make it what it says it is in the first place! In fairness to the tires, I haven’t tried them off-road yet but I can’t see them being effective in any kind of slick or muddy conditions. On the plus side, I love the powerful 750 watt motor and large capacity battery! Plenty of power and a comfortable ride with the full suspension. The hydraulic brakes work great as well as the smooth shifting Shimano gear set. Overall, I’m pleased with my purchase and the service I received from RGE! With some attention to details this would have been a 5 star review but due to the above mentioned issues I can only go with 4.

Why buy anywhere else?
This purchase could have gone very bad. I ordered two Greenbike Big Dog Off Roads. The transaction was flawless and the bikes were shipped less than 24 hours later. I received my tracking info and was very anxious. Unfortunately Fed Ex dropped the ball and the bikes went missing for two weeks. Steve jumped on it and had them tracked in literally minutes. Not only did I save 5% on the bikes, I had another ally in my court should something go wrong. Which in this case, proved to be a great thing. The bikes are unbelievably awesome and quite the head turners. Why buy anywhere else?

Full Suspension Fat Folder Runs Great
I've been riding my new Big Dog Off Road for about a month now, and I'm loving it. It climbs hills with lots of power, and the full suspension frame really helps to absorb the bumps on rutted trails. For under $2k, I think this is a really good ebike.

Great service fun bikes
Steve is absolutely the best at customer service. We bought two bikes and so far they have been fun to ride with plenty of power. Would definitely recommend both Steve and the Big Dog Off Road bike.

Very Powerful and Long Range
I am very pleased with my new ebike. I like all the features it comes with, like the very powerful motor and long-range battery. It is very comfortable to ride, and the full suspension is highly responsive. My only complaint, and the reason that i did not give it a 5-Star rating, was because I had to wait a few weeks before it would ship. I guess it was on backorder because of Covid.
