Bakcou Ebikes 2024 Lineup

Bakcou Ebikes is Back, and wow have they upped their game. Formerly known as Backcountry Ebikes, Bakcou was founded on a few basic principles.

First was their love for the backcountry and the desire to access these remote areas with minimal disturbance to wildlife and their natural habitat through quiet and non-polluting means.

Second was their desire to design and build the most durable and efficient electric bikes on the market. Their goal wasn’t to create a mountain bike conversion kit by simply adding a motor to a bicycle frame that wasn’t designed and intended to operate with one. Instead, they designed their ebikes around the motor and the drive train, with the necessary framework and durability needed to withstand the abuse and demands placed on it.

Third, Bakcou was built by sportsmen and outdoor enthusiasts, to climb higher, go farther and explore more without adding stress to the environment. 

The Bafang Ultra Motor

The Ultra ebike motor from Bafang Electric (Suzhou) Co., Ltd.i s widely recognized as the “diesel engine” of mid-drive ebike motors. It’s all metal construction and heavy-duty gearing, combined with the intelligence of an integrated torque sensor, make the Ultra motor the most capable, durable, and efficient motor on the market today.

The Ultra motor is also referred to as a “smart motor”. The speed, cadence, shift, brake, and torque sensors provide continuous feedback from the rider to the motor. This allows the motor to deliver exactly what you ask. What you get is a very natural feeling ride, even while providing a tremendous amount of torque and power output.

Long Lasting Lithium-Ion Batteries

Not all ebike batteries are created equal, and it is important to have one that excels in its composition, capacity, and efficiency. Bakcou uses only high end lithium ion cells created to hold a charge for a longer period of time. They are hand selected to create optimal torque, and greater distance, with each charge. Bakcou offers the highest quality batteries, using Samsung and Panasonic cells, with capacities ranging from 14.5Ah all the way up to 21Ah, giving you an extended range per charge.

High End Components

We recognize that it’s not only important to build a fat tire electric hunting bike around a bulletproof aluminum alloy frame, motor, and battery. It’s just as important to top it off with high-end components that allow it to perform the way you expect it to.

It’s all in the details and that’s why Bakcou use wide handlebars and locking handle grips for a greater base of support. They use wide stance, deep cleated pedals with wide holes to grip your boots and avoid accumulation of mud or snow. Their color LCD display allows for ease of use when flying down the trail, while the unparalleled traction and control of our Maxxis Minion fat-tires allow you to go where you want to go, with confidence.

Research & Development

The focus of Bakcou's research and development team was to design the most dependable, efficient, and capable fat tire electric hunting ebikes on the market.

Their ebikes were engineered to be electric bikes from the beginning, and not simply mountain bikes modified to function as ebikes. The stresses and demands placed on an electric bike used to haul not only the rider but his gear and game, in and out of the backcountry, are much greater than those placed on a regular bike.

For this reason, Bakcou designed and manufactured ebikes around the most important part of the bike, the drive train. Bakcou uses the latest, most technologically advanced motors and lithium ion batteries on the market.

Whether you're accessing remote areas on the powerful Mule with a heavy trailer loaded down with gear, or tackling the most aggressive terrain on their full-suspension Storm, their dependable ebikes will make sure you get there and back with confidence.

Testing & Trial

Bakcou was conceived and developed by hunters and outdoorsmen who loved to get off the beaten path and access remote areas with as little impact as possible on wildlife and the environment.

They also wanted a way to move more quickly, quietly, and scent free from one hunting spot to another. Their journey of testing and trial started in 2015 with several demo ebikes. They have now tested multiple frames and components, as well as mid-drive motors, rear-drive motors and even dual-drive motors, on just about any type of terrain you can imagine.

Whether its snow, mud, rock or sand on steep climbs or descending technical terrain, Bakcou has done it all. And what they learned in the process is, if you are going to plan your hunts around ebikes, they will need to get you, your gear, and your game in and out of these remote areas with confidence.

They need to be dependable, rugged, and functional. Bakcou believes through countless hours of testing and trial, in the harshest of environments, that they have assembled a line of back country ebikes that will be just that.

Which Bakcou Is Right For You?

MULE

When trying to decide which bike is right for you, it really comes down to application. If you plan to hit the trail with a loaded-down rear pannier rack, while pulling a trailer full of gear for a week of hunting or adventure in the back country, then we recommend our hard-tail Mule.

The Mule is built to pack! By design, this heavy duty 6061 aluminum alloy hard tail frame will maintain its integrity even when placed under heavy loads. While the air suspension GT MRK front forks and suspension seat post create a comfortable ride they cannot replace the high end full suspension ride of the Storm.

STORM

If your plans are to hunt rough, rugged, gnarly terrain, with a pack on your back, and you are less interested in packing heavy gear on your bike or pulling weighted down trailers, then the full suspension Storm is right for you.

The full suspension Storm delivers a Cadillac ride while traversing even the most rugged terrain. However, weighing down a full-suspension bike with heavy gear can cause the rear end to squat, (even when the rear shock is locked out) changing the way it rides and performs.

While the Storm utilizes the same, bullet-proof Bafang Ultra mid-drive motor, with it’s heavy duty metal gearing and diesel engine like construction, we recommend it more for day trip hunting when a smooth ride is top priority.

FLATLANDER

We recognize that not every hunt begins at the top of the mountain. For this reason, Bakcou has taken all of the high-end components of the Mule and Storm, and engineered a hunting tool for those that hunt the flatter ground, at a price point that won’t break the bank.

Bakcou combined the power and performance of the Bafang 750W rear hub motor with the same bullet proof aluminum alloy frame and high-end components, that you expect in a Bakcou fat-tire electric hunting bike, and created the Flatlander.

MULE OR FLATLANDER STEP-THROUGH MODELS

We recommend our Mule and Flatlander Step-Through (ST) models for our customers with a shorter leg length, or those that have difficulty getting on and off of a traditional fat-tire eBike.

The Mule ST and Flatlander ST are built exactly like the Mule and Flatlander, with the exception of a lower top tube allowing for a shorter stand over height. This allows for greater ease in getting on and off of the bike.
