What Are The Electric Bike Drive Modes?

Some people like to start their ebike discovery process by searching ebikes by drive mode. To help them in this process, we have created collections for each of the drive mode combinations we have available in our store. These include:

Class 1 Pedal Assist (PAS) (No Throttle)

Class 1 Pedal Assist (PAS) electric bikes have an electric drive system that can only be activated through a pedaling action and is limited to relatively low speeds. There are no throttles on a Class 1 ebike (if there is a throttle, whether or not the ebike also has PAS, then it is categorized as Class 2).

Class 2 Throttle Only (No Pedal Assist)

The electric bikes in this collection all come with a Class 2 Thumb or Twist Throttle, but no pedal assist.

Class 2 Thumb Throttle + Pedal Assist (PAS)

The electric bikes in this collection all have a Class 2 thumb throttle, which allows you to ride without pedaling. These ebikes also have Pedal Assist (PAS) which assists you when pedaling. And, of course, all of these ebikes can be pedaled like conventional bikes, without engaging the motor.

Class 2 Twist Throttle + Pedal Assist (PAS)

The electric bikes in this collection all have a Class 2 twist throttle, which allows you to ride without pedaling. These ebikes also have Pedal Assist (PAS) which assists you when pedaling. And, of course, all of these ebikes can be pedaled like conventional bikes, without engaging the motor.
